Motorcycle Charity Rides

Written by author on Thursday, May 28th, 2009 in Other.

During these tough economic times, not only are individuals suffering, but so are charities which rely on donor generosity. Even more so, it is the institutions behind the charities which are having a hard time with their incomes dwindling. So they have had to come up with unconventional ways to continue fund raising. One of the ways has been to go to the motorcycle and biker community.

It may strike some people as odd, but the biker community is surprisingly generous. There is a true sense of brotherhood among bikers and they are willing to show support for causes they believe in. This has not been lost on some of the top charities in the country and they have started their own motorcycle charity motorcycle charity rides.

The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF) is one such foundation to rely on financial support of the motorcycle community. Most of the money raised for the PBTF comes from their motorcycle charity are, the Ride for Kids®.

When the PBTF was created in 1991, the diagnosis of a brain tumor was virtually a death sentence for a child. Because there was very little research being done into the disease, most treatments were ineffective or harsh, and most children did not survive to adulthood.

The PBTF has worked hard to change that reality. Researchers are developing new therapies that extend the lives of children, and they believe that their work will ultimately lead to a cure for this most devastating of childhood cancers. They rely on the members of their distinguished Scientific Advisory Board to help them evaluate the best funding opportunities in the brain tumor arena.

As the world’s largest non-governmental source of funding for childhood brain tumor research, they’re dedicated to not only eradicating this disease, but to providing support to families. Their educational resources deliver comfort and hope to families in need of information, and their college scholarship program gives brain tumor survivors a boost for the future.

The Ride for Kids® is held in 39 cities across the United States. Approximately 25,000 riders per year participate in their biker charity biker charity rides.

The motorcycling community’s generous support enabled the Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation (PBTF) to increase its medical research funding commitments by $8.35 million in 2008. The majority of the funding came from the Ride for Kids® program, now in its 26th year of championing childhood brain tumor research.

The grants consist of an additional $6 million to the PBTF Institute at Duke University; $1 million to the PBTF Institute at the University of California San Francisco and $1 million to PBTF Institute at the Hospital for Sick Children in Toronto, Canada; $250,000 to Dr. Gregory Shackleford at Children’s Hospital Los Angeles; and $100,000 to Dr. Yuri Tabori at the Hospital for Sick Children.

The PBTF’s research institute program concluded its sixth year of funding in 2008. Overall, the foundation has funded more than 50 research institutions in the United States and other countries.

The Top Rated Saturn Aura

Written by man on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Other.

The impressive sales of Saturn Aura allowed for this mid-sized car to get in the top of the best cars produced by General Motors. The popularity of the concept became apparent in 2006 when it was made public at the New York Auto Show, and though it was meant as a replacement for the Saturn L-series, Saturn Aura brings a breath of fresh air to the entire Saturn collection. The result of this new direction is market preference for American autos instead of European imports particularly since recently the focus has fallen on the latter in the United States. Saturn Aura thus competes with its distant cousin: the European Opel Vectra.

The standard Saturn Aura has folding mirrors and side marker lights, and these design features are clearly an imitation of European car design. The other appearance details make Saturn Aura a really pleasant car with 17 or 18 inch wheels and tires for all seasons in both the XR or XE models. The improvements in car appearance are relevant for the structure of the cabin too; now Saturn Aura allows the buyer a choice for saddle leather seats and back seat radio control. Yet, despite the real advantages in the standard model, Saturn Aura has been criticized for the quality of the materials used in the interior.

The technical features include an ABS system for all the four wheels, heated seats and both lateral and frontal airbags, with all these elements present on the standard models. Saturn Aura also spoils its users with 224 horsepower for a 3.5 liter V6 engine. The distinction between Saturn Aura XR and XE is obvious with the properties of the suspension system: thus Saturn Aura XE has soft suspensions while Aura XR has more rigid sportier ones. Moreover, this concept gap is further reflected in the price of the car with the soft variant coming cheaper.

Just like the Saturn Vue Hybrid the Saturn Aura is also available in the hybrid eco form following the green line specificity. It uses a belt alternation system and it has the same suspension system as the gas-fueled XE models. This hybrid design offers 164 horsepower and a significant fuel consume reduction. In the effort to make more people open to buy hybrid cars, government policy has changed in regard to tax payment; thus you’ll taxes will be reduced by up to $1,300 if you choose a car in the green line. Consequently after you buy the Saturn Aura hybrid you’ll save the above mentioned sum that you’d otherwise pay for taxes.

So whether you doing car rental comparisons or you are in the market for a new car purchase, you cant go wrong with the Saturn Aura.

The Government Set to Buy Everyone a New Electric Car

Written by man on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Other.

For years people have been emitting so much pollution from their vehicles which has affected the environment in numerous ways. Folk have also been paying out a fortune on gas for the cars which is one of the reasons that the economy has dropped so much with the rising increase in fuel costs.

But this problem could shortly be rectified as the government have recently announced that they may be offering motorists in Britain £2,000 to buy an electric car for themselves. The main benefits of this would be as follows:

1) It would help the environment a massive amount, especially with the commuters in big cities. Commuters drive around cities every day of the week, in vehicles that let out a huge amount of emissions, getting into efficient electric cars would definitely be the way forwards.
2) It would save people a huge amount on gas, insurance and road tax.
3) Every household could potentially purchase new cars.

I believe it is about time that the government looked at giving back to the public, people have been paying their road taxes, fuel and insurance for years without getting back anything in return. The government do have their work cut out because electric vehicles havent really caught on in Britain yet. According to estimated numbers, not many electric vehicles have been sold at all infact it is not even in the 200 figure.12 million.

One of the main factors as to why people are not buying electric cars is simply because there are not enough charge points throughout the country.

Selecting the Best Car For Your Family

Written by man on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Other.

When you chose your first car, chances are you looked first at things like how cool the car was and how much you wanted to get behind the wheel. Then reality hit when you saw the price, and finally you picked what you could actually afford and tried to source the best model in that price range.

Selecting the correct car for your family is not too different from choosing your very first car. Okay, you have probably bought several cars. And yes, you may now have a somewhat larger budget. But the fact is, with the money you do have available, you need to buy the best car for your family.

When choosing a car, the first thing to decide on is its main use. If it’s going to will be the “second car” and the whole family will not normally ride in it, the car probably doesn’t need to be as big or have as many family oriented features.

Next, who’s going to get the most use out of the car? The main driver should find the car comfortable, and that includes how the seats feel, where the controls are located, how they are built, how the car drives and whether the mirrors and controls are adjustable to the primary driver’s needs.

The next thing to decide on is not the next thing most people think of, but it is very important. You need to be sure that the trunk is large enough and that it has a large opening. Some cars that have big trunks will not hold large objects in the trunk because the opening is too narrow.

You also need to decide on how many doors you need. If more than two people usually ride in the car, four doors are almost a requirement, especially as kids grow or more come along. It can become a very big pain to get people in and out of the back of a car with only two doors.

How roomy the seats are goes along with the number of doors, but be sure that the there’s enough room in the back for adults as well as kids. Even if your kids are small now you want to make sure that as they grow, there is room for everyone in the car without scrunching.

Mileage should also be a concern, as many smaller cars that give good mileage can be  too small for your family. However, as many car companies are beginning to focus more on mileage, you may come across a suitable van or sedan for your family and get better mileage than your old car gives.

In the end, selecting a car is a very personal decision that you and your family should take together. The main thing is that you ought to feel that you have bought a car within your means, that you and your family can be comfortable in and that will give you with years of service.

After all, financing a car is a very long-term commitment, and you should be happy with your purchase for the life of the car. Just taking the time to peruse your options and think about what you really need lets you enjoy your car long after that new-car aroma fades away.

Discount Firestone Tires

Written by man on Wednesday, May 27th, 2009 in Other.

Firestone Tires

The company Firestone tires was initiated by Harvey Firestone in the starting years of the 1900s; a person with a lot of drive and ambition, when he realized that by ensuring delivery of tires produced by his company to both the motor and non motor vehicles, he would be able to make a lot of money. The continued rising demand for tires made Harvey take recognition of the stupendous potential in setting up a company only for making these tires and he invested a lot of his time and money to set up and sell his brand and products.Firestone tires thus became one of the pioneers in the mass production of tires for the automotive sector and began to earn a lot of respect and appreciation due to the quality of their tires. Harvey fulfilled his dream of supplying to the Ford Motor Company and this association ensured that Firestone was swamped with regular orders. Many reputed automotive companies were the customers of Firestone and were purchasing their tires in thousands month on month and it was certainly astounding that in spite of possessing no technical familiarity  and awareness about a product like tires, Harvey had achieved tremendous success and Firestone was going from strength to strength.

History

The Firestone Tires Organization was initially set up in Akron in the state of Ohio, where they had over thousand employees working in the factory, which itself was a very commendable feat as it provided people the opportunity to make their living. After America, it was the turn of Canada for Firestone, which ventured into Ontario to establish its brand and commenced production in the year 1922, while also making the Old fire brand of tires named after the racecar driver Barney Oldfield renowned in this period.

Setback Faced

Firestone had to undergo a severe dent in its image in October 1978, when some vehicle accidents caused the deaths of 34 persons and the reason was touted to be the bad quality of Firestone tires. The court penalized Firestone to the tune of $500,000 and also forced it to fetch back over 7 million tires of the 500 series making it the most severe penalty in the history of America. The people employed with Firestone also faced a lot of embarrassment along with the company due to the many lawsuits which needed to be resolved besides having to also contend with their products falling out of favor in the market place. You can now buy a whole array of Firestone products and remain assured of excellent quality and service.

Purchasing Vehicles – Getting the Best Deals Possible

Written by man on Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 in Other.

Buying a set of wheels is a big investment. Especially during times when the economy is not doing well or when work is not frugal for us — we need the best price we can find. So what options are there for us at these times?

Auto Auction

One of the most cost effective methods to buying a new car is through Repo Auctions. Buying a car can bear huge discounts. The same car purchased at an auction instead of a used car dealership can bring deep discounts as low as 90%.

Another benefit to auto auctions is the fact that they have so many cars to choose from. Usually you will see lots of autos lined up to be sold. You could spend months looking at all the cars and trucks that are there.

If you want a deep discount your best bet very likely is at an auto auction. Auctions are also globally done. So right in your town is the auction for you.

Buying from an Older Person

If there are senior citizen areas near where you live it is definitely worth checking them out for car deals. Many times they have bulletins where they can post information to. Many times they make car selling announcements posted here.

The benefit to buying from an older person is that they hardly drive anywhere. The car they are selling is like brand spanking new. They generally just drive to the store and back home. There are no hard miles on the car.

Also of interest is the fact that they probably are not selling for any kind of profit. In most cases their son or daughter are selling for them and they just want a quick, fast and simple sell without any lose ends.

The only problem to this kind of option is it is a hit or miss deal. Timing is important and when you need a car may not be a time to find a car from someone older.

These are a few options I’ve successfully used to find really good purchases on cars throughout my vehicle buying experience as an owner and seller of cars.

Super clean diesel engines for Audi

Written by man on Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 in Other.

By iCar Automotive News

The Audi Q7, the company presents on the Shanghai Car Show has a different look. But not only the exterior has changed, technically the car has undergone some changes too. “The fuel consumption is reduced on all the models. The press release talks about the fact that the new Audi is als available with the cleanest diesel technology in the world, the TDI clean diesel.

What’s changed? The grille is the most significant one. The models come with vertical bars with high chrome finish that gives it an extra luxury look. The bumpers were changed. When the lights go on the street lights up in Cool Blue illuminated. Yeah, the Audi Q7 is equipped with Xenon lighting or an adaptive system with Xenon lights. This means the headlight to the car rotate with the steering angle. Around the new Audi is equiped with LED lighting.

Extra efficiency
All gasoline and diesel engines for the new Audi Q7 have direct fuel injection. The same goes for the Audi Q7 3.TDI Clean Diesel. The 3.0-liter V6 TDI has a DeNOx catalyst with AdBlue injection. It’s AdBlue additive ensures that nitrogen oxide is converted into harmless gasses. The complex exhaust system sees to that the Audi 3.Clean diesel meets the strictest emission standards in the world, which is expected in September 2014 takes effect. The Audi Q7 3.Clean diesel fuel allows an average of 8.fuel consumption of 9 l/100 km.

The other engines for the Audi Q7 are also more efficient. Mainly because of the recovery system that convert mechanical brake and roll energy into electrical energy and stored in the battery. This system provides a lower fuel consumption and therefore lower CO2 emissions (reduction up to 5 g / km).

The 3.0 TDI with 176 kW/240 hp is satisfied with 9.1 l/100 km. Your Audi Q7 4.2 TDI (250 kW/340 hp) rides on an average of 9.9 l/100 km (was 11.1 l/100 km). The Audi Q7 V 12 TDI (despite its power of 368 kW/500 hp) consumes 11.3 l/100km. The average consumption of the 3.6 FSI petrol version (206 kW/280 hp) is 12.1 l/100 km and the 4.2 FSI V8

is 12.7 l/100 km.

The standard of luxury and top comfort on this Audi. Through the six speed tipronic transmission you control the quattro permanent four-wheel drive, you have got air conditioning and a good hi-fi and if you are not yet fully satisfied, you can opt into a B & O sound system, complete with infotainment system for your navigation, telephone and music. Your Audi Q7 4.2 TDI and 6.0 TDI has an air suspension with three preset modes (comfort, automatic, dynamic) standard. And what would you think of ceramic disc brakes, adaptive cruise control, Audi lane assist, the Audi parking system and comfort seats.

The New And Improved Saturn SC2

Written by man on Tuesday, May 26th, 2009 in Other.

Also known as the GM sports coupe, Saturn SC2 is one of the first models produced in the Saturn autos in the early and mid 90s. The introduction of the S Series by General Motors represented a marketing stratagem to diminish the influence of the Japanese imports on the American market. With the success reputed by Saturn SC2, Japan and Taiwan actually began imports of these vehicles on their markets, which only proves that the reputation GM got for the Saturn S Series was not void of content. Though no spectacular adjustments were made to the Saturn SC2 in time, the year 1999 saw the biggest of upgrades.

Saturn SC2 got a little lateral door often called the suicide door on the side of the driver. In the case of the SC design, this additional feature was a big change as it was a welcome change in the manufacturing of sports cars. This kind of door had only been used in the manufacturing of extended cab pickup trucks before. The manufacturing of Saturn SC2 continued until 2003 when GM took the decision of replacing the S Series with a new smarter model, Saturn Ion. The production of this latter model also came to a halt in 2007 as well when GM chose a new market approach.

In its category, Saturn SC2 represented the most fuel-efficient vehicle with a manual transmission. One gallon of gas was enough for forty miles according to the ratings and the data in the Saturn SC2 car highway tests. This initial engine was rated at only 124 horsepower, but in 1995 improvements became necessary to the first SC model: thus, the producer added a lower front bumper and a trunk lid reflector, not to mention that the interior was also redesigned. It was the second generation of Saturn SC2 that saw changes in exterior concept that now focused on rather curve lines.

Reviews claim that Saturn SC2 brought little difference from SC1, the latter only received black outside mirrors while the SC2 variant had them colored. Saturn SC2 came with standard fog lamps, anti-break lock was optional and it also had some kind of traction control. Then, as for the manual transmission, Saturn SC2 and SC1 were identical, and the same similarity remained in the dashboard look, daytime running lights and even wheelbase. The improvements of Saturn SC2 were inspired by the sedan and station wagon models produced by General Motors.

So whether you doing car rental comparisons or you are in the market for a new car purchase, you cant go wrong with the Saturn Sc2.

Why Buy a New Car When You can Lease

Written by man on Sunday, May 24th, 2009 in Other.

In this current day and age having your own transport is essential as public transport will only let you down. People want to drive the best cars and they end up costing a fortune.

But is it really worth buying a new car these days? Let us see the reason why I do not really like this.
1.) Newer models of vehicles have been made not to last, so that after a few years you will need to go out and buy a new one.
2.) Even if a car was built to last in this day and age people just travel so much and they would probably do 100k miles in 3 years or less.
3.) Parts for your vehicle that will set you back alot.

I think back to when I first got my drivers licence, it was an amazing time, but I was driving a car that had been built in 1985 and done a huge amount of miles but never let me down. These days I like to purchase newer cars but they always end up breaking.

Most people decide to purchase their vehicles on finance so by the time they pay them off the car would be dead anyway and then they would have to go and buy a new one, the manufacturers are very clever.  So in my opinion car leasing is probably one of the best options you pay probably less than you would as a monthly rate for finance, then when your term is up you hand the car back and get a brand new one, plus avoiding all of the cost of repairs and break downs.

Great Mercedes car leasing or BMW car leasing.
