Ford Gives Us a Hybrid Sedan

Ever since the Taurus took a nose dive a few years ago, Ford has been looking for a suitable replacement to challenge the Accord and Camry in the mid-sized car segment.Since its first introduction in 2006, Ford has made many modifications to the Fusion including the new Hybrid power plant that the public have really been taking notice to.The Fusion Hybrid was finally revieled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in late 2008.In comparison to competitors, the Ford Fusion Hybrid gets some of the best in-town gas mileage.Beating out the Toyota Camry by a large margin, and the economical Civic Hybrid by a hair; the Fusion Hybird is ranked at 41 MPG in town driving.  The Fusion’s electric engine can power the car up to 47 MPH without any help from the gas engine.A bunch of Car Prublications have used this method to get greater fuel economy than the EPA estimates.

By using new technology, the Fusion can help drivers know which driving style recieves the best fuel economy.  They have created an ingenious system which is built into the instrument cluster called the SmartGauge.there are 2 hybrid information displays, one on each side of the gauge cluster that give a nice readout. The 1st display tells the power left in the battery packs and the remaining amount of fuel. The second gauge tells which mode the car in in; electric or hybrid, and it also shows the RPM’s.The third monitor will tell how the battery power is and what the engine output is.Additional power consumption and power to the wheels are shown in the last data screen. The info centers in the Fusion display MGP, fuel consumption past data, a driving log, and radiator temp.   The real time MPG information can show drivers which driving style is best for fuel economy.

The nav screen shows the Hybrid Energy Flow data.  This display will track the 5 modes of the Fusion’s Hybrid Powertrain which are the; electric drive, hybrid drive, electric boost, idle charging, and regenerative breaking.

The Fusion represents the first eco car to use recycle materials in the construction os the interior.Tired of watching Toyota and Honda benifit off new hybrid vehicles, Ford decided to add a new hybrid vehicle to their line-up that will apeal to the masses.
