The Opel Zafira Tested

Written by man on September 1st, 2010 in Other.

Every now and again along comes a car that surprises you, and sometimes that’s a really nice thing!

This is the case with the Opel Zafira. From the exterior it looks a lot like a whole swag of other family type people carriers, same sort of general shape, size and on paper specs. Yet here is a car that’s more than the sum of its parts.

What’s it drive like? Now here’s the good stuff. Despite the shortage of stand out styling, the car drives like a good one. First off there is the engine, which is also found in the Vectra. The power delivery is lively and invigorating. Even fully laden there’s plenty of grunt and the revs zip up the range with an urgency that completely belies the size of the vehicle and the design parameters.

The Zafira’s driving position is as expected; multi adjustable and allows that high and commanding view point which suits the vehicle and will appeal to a lot. Seats are comfy and supportive and the general view of the equipment from the drivering seat is pretty fulfilling with everything being where you’d expect it to be. It would have been nice to see the column mounted stereo controls found on other cars in the range fitted here also.

Giving the Zafira an engine without matching it to good handling would be a tragic shame, and I’m pleased to report that things are well looked after in that department~Giving the Zafira an engine without matching it to good handling would be a tragic shame, and I’m pleased to report that things are well looked after in that department~Giving the Zafira an engine without matching it to decent handling would be a tragic waste, and I’m happyto report that things are well looked after in that section}. As mentioned the chassis is based on the Astra, and as a result seems like the motor sits quite low to the ground.

Whoever Opel gave the task of weighting the steering to, had a good feeling on the relationship between what you want, and what you need. Light and accurate without divorcing the driver from the sensation of turning the wheels, which some power steering systems do, the Zaf’ is happy to do the parking lot spin or the bung it in and bang it on. In fact you can be forgiven for driving the thing in a manner that makes a mockery of the design purpose.

In terms of outside visibility, the Zafira wins bonus points, and it’s clear that the big H has put a lot of thought into keeping things like the ‘A’ pillar as narrow as possible, in so doing maximizing observation opportunities.

There’s a fair bit of storage space elsewhere, and some useful little compartments including one strategically placed to catch the change that falls out of your pocket and ends up under the seat supplementing the kids pocket money.

As for fuel usage, well all that down changing and performance has a cost, and even though the car slips into neutral when stationary to save fuel, as well as preventing strain on the drive line, the best I could get was 8.1 km/l (12.3l/100km).

Did we like this car? The answer to that is a yes. It’s a well-rounded and practical package that puts some of the driving experience back into a class that could be as dull as coal. Try it and see if I’m right.

Its Very Popular In USA, Honda CR-V

Written by man on August 29th, 2010 in Other.

The Honda CR-V is a compact crossover SUV manufactured by the Japanese firm Honda since 1996. It was loosely derived from the Honda Civic to satisfy a public demand for a sport-utility vehicle from Honda.

There are discrepancies as to what “CR-V” stands for, with Honda sources in different markets citing different meanings. Although Honda sales literature in UK reportedly states references to “Compact Recreational Vehicle”, other Honda references (including the official Honda Japan CR-V Fact Book and Honda Worldwide) cite “Comfortable Runabout Vehicle”.

While the 2010 power boost is much appreciated, this CR-V is definitely not as fast as a RAV-4 or Equinox. But what the 2.4-liter four lacks in grunt it makes up for in smoothness and offers more than enough power in most situations. Combined with the sure-footed handling the on-road performance of this CR-V didn’t give us much to complain about. The engine even made a nice growl when given the spurs, easily getting up to highway speeds and smoothly summoning velocity for passing at will. If more competitors start dropping their V6 options like the 2011 Hyundai Tucson did, this Honda might find itself right in the sweet-spot once again.

The CR-V’s numbers, however, don’t make it a standout on paper. It’s a jack-of-all-trades but master of none, and although that might seem like a deterrent in such a competitive field, its mid-pack horsepower rating, length, width, height, wheelbase and curb weight belie the CR-V’s appeal. It has more room inside than you’d expect and a long list of standard and optional features that help set it apart from other suitors.

I liked the way this vehicle looked and drove and it is exactly served by the Car - SUV market, and could cash in on the middle working class market.Find some here Find Used Renault Cars For Sale Laois to suit your needs

The New Toyota Auris Hybrid Version

Written by man on August 29th, 2010 in Other.

Toyota is introducing the hybrid powertrain to its Toyota Auris range. It’s a third powertrain option – after regular petrol and diesel engines – for buyers in the all-important family hatchback market and a very clear signal that Toyota is not prepared to give up on the hybrid model for all the hype over full electric vehicles.

For the few who still don’t understand the hybrid, you get a regular petrol engine but aid it with an electric motor. The power comes either from the motor, the engine or a mixture of both.

In Toyota’s defence, it offers hybrid alongside other versions, not instead of them. The hybrid principles can also be applied to any combination of technologies. For now it features a petrol engine and the electric motorOverall, it’s about widening the hybrid audience and that’s where this Auris comes in. The body may be the same as the regular petrol and diesel variants of the family hatchback but the powertrain is from the latest Prius. The 1.8-litre petrol engine is matched to a nickel-metal hydride battery; the power from both equating to 136bhp.

Toyota claims that’s equivalent to a 2-litre petrol engine, which would seem more than ample for a family hatchback.

This is most noticeable on hill climbs, when you kick down expecting the revs to flicker up and down as the power increases. The engineers say you can overcome this with a little change to your throttle movementsAs to the rest of the car, when cruising, or in towns with the battery providing back-up, it settles down nicely and noise/vibration issues are not a problem. The ride on either the 15” or 17” wheels is comfortable, and the car’s handling differs little from the regular. The only way you can tell is that the hybrid Auris will come in white and have the telltale Hybrid logo on the bootAs to the all important fuel consumption and emission figures, the Auris hybrid promises an official average fuel figure of 3.8l/100km and a CO2 of just 89g/km Find Some Second Hand VW Car Sales in Mayo for a better car.

The Toyota Camry A Class Car

Written by man on August 29th, 2010 in Other.

Toyota has long played third fiddle in the quest for sales in the UKs large car market with the Toyota Camry never having truly been able to compete with the bigger and bigger-engined Opel and Ford six cylinder models.

On the space front, the new Camry does indeed feel like a big car with the curved dash accentuating the broad outlook across the bonnet. In the rear, Toyota claims an increase of 98mm in legroom and it does seem like it with plenty of space for three adults in reasonable comfort across the sculpted bench. The boot too offers a cavernous space that can be expanded through the split fold seat back and there are plenty of storage cavities up front in the centre console, dash and doors.

It is a quiet and refined powerplant that seldom intrudes on what are generally very low levels of overall noise vibration and harshness and the car is quick to respond to firm input from the right foot.

.The ride is reasonably comfortable, particularly on rougher roads with plenty of compliance and the seats are actually quite decent pews, having been locally developed. Getting in the right driving position, however, is a bit awkward as the steering lacks a reach adjustment.

Electric controls abound for everything from the front seats to the standard sunroof, there is full leather trim, climate control, cruise control, dual front and front side airbags, ABS - which is standard on all V6 models - 6-stack CD sound system, and a full touch screen DVD satellite navigation system,.

. On the road it doesn’t actually feel that much more powerful than the four, which is much praise to that engine, and like the smaller engine, likes to play in the middle of the rev range for the best results. It is very smooth and quiet though with low levels of noise.Try here Buy used Toyota Cars Cavan to find one.

Peugeot 307 Coupe Convertible

Written by man on August 29th, 2010 in Other.

Yes, the Peugeot 307 CC does claim to be a four-seat convertible but no, the two individually sculpted rear seats are not comfortably appointed for adults. Short trips are a possibility, but it needs the front-seat passenger to give up legroom so those behind may gain some. Headroom in the rear was fine.Cruise control is standard, along with climate control air conditioning, alloy wheels, in-dash single CD player, electric windows and mirrors, remote central locking, steering wheel-mounted stereo controls, rain sensing wipers, follow-me-home headlights, and of course the electric folding roof.

The Sport model will add back parking sensors, car alarm, folding wing mirrors and a five-stack CD player, as well as more powerful engine and larger 17in wheels.

The driver’s seat adjusts for height as well as rake, and the steering wheel tilts and telescopes.Getting into the rear seats with the roof down is not a problem and it’s also quite easy with the roof up. Boot space is quite good with the roof up; Peugeot claims it will hold 350lt — handy if you’re carrying water.
Much of the 307CC’s additional weight which so hinders engine performance has gone into increasing the rigidity and crashworthiness of the convertible when the top is down. Body and door strengthening, structural reinforcing, dual front and side airbags combined with anti-whiplash active head restraints earn the 307CC four out of five stars in EuroNCAP independent crash testing.

Active safety features include four-wheel disc brakes with ABS and electronic brakeforce distribution. Peugeot’s ESP Electronic Stability Programme combines this, ant-skid control and yaw control into the one module, designed to keep you on the straight and narrow whenever possible
The entry level 307 CC is powered by a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine, which produces 100kW of power and 190Nm of torque. It accelerates from rest to 100kms per hour in a mediocre 10.9sec. Get Used Opel cars Mayo.ie For a nice vehicle.

The Saab Convertible9-3

Written by man on August 29th, 2010 in Other.

The real story of the Saab 9-3 Convertible is not in the engine-room but rather under the car’s undeniably handsome skin A four-seater, the Convertible offers reasonable accommodations in the rear, though the broad of shoulder might be better off up front. Legroom at the back will not break any records but even those over theaverage height will be comfortable for short to medium trips.

. Ergonomics are fine, too and with optional, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, it’s so easy to get comfortable The auto climate control kept us comfortable with the top up~Ergonomics are fine, too and with optional, electrically adjustable driver’s seat, it’s so easy to get comfortable The auto climate control kept us comfortable with the top up~Ergonomics are good, too and with optional, electrically adjusted driver’s seat, it’s easy to get comfortable The automatic climate control kept us comfy with the top up~Ergonomics are extremely good, too and with optional, electrically adjusted driver’s seat, it’s easy to be comfortable The auto climate control kept us comfortable with the top up}. Saab claims coupe-like ambience in this mode and the boffins are mostly right..

Hood operation is electric and fully automatic — no unlatching or latching, just push the dash-mounted button and don or doff the driving cap.

With the roof down, luggage space is at a premium — unless, of course, you’re very specific with your choice (read: shape) of bag
In addition to safety-orientated ergonomics, front and side airbags and pre-tensioning seat belts, the Convertible boasts SAHR (Saab Active Head Restraints) and DynaCage Rollover Protection. SAHR combats injuries in rear-end collisions. In terms of active safety, MBA (Mechanical Brake Assist), CBC (Corner Braking Control), traction control, EBD (Electronic Brake force Distribution) and ESP (Electronic Stability Program) combine with the general upgrade of the car’s dynamics to (fingers crossed) keep you out of trouble.

A smart transmission, Sentronic will adapt to your driving style. In regular use, it’s fuss-free and the manual mode handles well, though perhaps not with quite the spontaneity of the best tiptronic-style boxes.

Braking is all-disc, with the 155kW variants getting an upgrade to 302mm/292mm (F/R) ventilated discs all round. Top marks to saab for a first class sporty car which will turn lots of heads wherever you go,no mean feat in todays marketplace.Find one here Second Hand VW Car Sales in Laois.ie to suit your needs.
